SAN FRANCISCO – CRC Executive Director Paulina Gonzalez-Brito is scheduled to testify before the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services on Wednesday, March 10 about ways policymakers can dismantle white supremacy, and remove the barriers Black, Indigenous, and People of Color face in the housing and financial services industry.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the Committee, will open the hearing entitled, “Justice for All: Achieving Racial Equity Through Fair Access to Housing and Financial Services.”

“While the United States has built its economy on the labor and entrepreneurship of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, these groups have been excluded from housing and financial industries and denied the opportunity to build intergenerational wealth. We have an opportunity now to reimagine these systems and rebuild a just and equitable economy,” said Gonzalez-Brito, an expert in economic justice, and worker and immigrant rights.

This isn’t the first time Gonzalez-Brito has served as an expert witness before congress. Last January, she discussed the importance of the Community Reinvestment Act for low- and moderate-income Californians before the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions. In February of that year, she testified before the United States House of Representatives Financial Service Committee,Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation in a hearing entitled, “Fake It Till They Make It: How Bad Actors Use Astroturfing to Manipulate Regulators, Disenfranchise Consumers and Subvert the Rulemaking Process.”
